Persuasive Writing Ingredients

During quarantine, we have been learning about persuasive writing. We have been learning how to do it and the ingredients. This piece of text is written by my teacher and the highlighted bits are color-coordinated to the graph above it. Enjoy!

Introduction that has a hook and clearly states opinion or viewpoint

Clear structure (may include subheadings, paragraphs, lead sentences, sequencing words)

Summary statement

Quotes, facts, research testimonials (self or others)

Counter-argument

Figurative and emotive language: alliteration, simile, personification, assonance.

New sentence types some;others,     3 bad - question,    if, if, if… then,

the more, the more,  or emotion word (comma) sentence

That’s Me - Predator Free

"An estimated 25 million native birds, eggs, and chicks are cruelly eaten alive by introduced predators

every year in New Zealand," Forest &Bird  said.

Does this concern you? If so, you are not alone. I believe that we all have a role to

play in protecting the native flora and fauna of Aotearoa.

Imagine a New Zealand with no thriving, lush bush and  no beautiful, endemic birds:

this could become a reality!  Laziness, indifference, business - why are people doing

nothing? Proverbs 12:10 says, ‘a righteous man cares for his animals.’ We must care

enough to take action so our threatened species are here for future generations.

Some people believe that the Predator Free 2050 ambition is a pie in the sky; I believe it can be achieved. If we work together, if we get our families on board, if we upskill and get out there, then our birds will thrive .  According to Preadatorfreenz.org, areas not under pest management have only  5% of chicks survive. In areas where pests are controlled 50 - 60 % of chicks survive. You see, ordinary people like you are out there; ordinary people, like you, are learning, trapping, monitoring and teaching others.

Lastly, the more people doing their part, the more our ecosystems and our people

will flourish. By joining our KCS Enviro group you will save species, strengthen ecosystems,

make KCS a better place to learn and play and gain life-long  skills. It's us ordinary

people that do the extraordinary.  So get on board - let’s be one accord.

Persuasive Writing About Helping Others

During quarantine, one of the things I learnt was how to write a persuasive piece of text. Everyone in my class got to choose a topic they're passionate about. The topic I chose was on how the New Zealand government should help the civilians in Afghanistan stay safe. How we as a nation should house them and provide essential care for them. I was really passionate about this so I think my piece of writing was fun and meaningful! Enjoy.

In Afghanistan, there is a war between the Taliban and Pakistan. This war has been burning for over two decades! Innocent people lose their lives due to the strife between the Taliban and Pakistan. Anger, sadness, death- why is no one doing anything to help? If you think this is unfair, you are not alone. I believe that the NZ government is able to house and feed those innocent people in Afghanistan. I believe that we as a nation can help those helpless refugees.

Imagine a place that Afghanistan refugees can come to for safety, where they can come and live their lives, where they don’t have to worry in constant fear of death: this is what New Zealand could come with the help of the government. “About 241,000 people have been killed in the Afghanistan and Pakistan war zone since 2001. More than 71,000 of those killed have been civilians,” stated Watson Brown Education. Some people think this is a reasonable number; others find this unacceptable. I am certainly one of the others. We should care for people worldwide! Galatians 6:2 says "carry each other's burdens and so you will fulfill the law of Christ." As a country, we should be a refuge to those in Afghanistan and carry the burden of their safety.

We have a beautiful harmonious society here in Aotearoa, we have amazing unique animals, we have an abundant amount of healthcare access, food, and a place to call home but, over in Afghanistan people barely have enough essential care things to last them until the next day! As a nation and a community, we should help in any way we can just to see an unfortunate Afghanistan in a home.

Quarantine Learning

During quarantine my teacher has set us work to do so we don't miss out on anything. So far I have learnt about the order in our maths operations, variables, the difference between quotes and referencing and how to write a persuasive piece of text! It may not sound like much but I didn't know much of this before. Below this piece of text is my learning about quotes and references summarised. Enjoy!

Character Review On Primrose

I am going to be doing a review on Primrose. Primrose appears in Mother Knows Best by Serena Valentino. She is Gothels older sister and is a fun and joyous person. Hope you enjoy reading about Primrose.

Primrose is the sister of Gothel from Rapunzel. Primrose is one of my favourite characters in Gothel's backstory! She is a fun and loving sister and is always ready to make the world a better place. She is the only colourful character in this book and that is why she is so interesting. She is 16 and really optimistic. Her red hair flows down her back and her face is dotted with freckles and emerald green eyes. Primrose lived in a murky forest with her mother and two sisters Hazel and Gothel. She is the middle sister but the most joyous. When her mother died she continued to haunt the three of them until she attacked Hazel and herself and made them both fall ill.

No matter how much Gothel tried she just couldn't get them to turn back into her old happy self. Until 3 identical sisters visited them saying they could cure her and Hazel but when they finally found a cure it was too late. Primrose and Hazel were gone. Gothel was devastated. I really liked how Primrose lightened up their murky forest.

By reading about Primrose I saw how much being kind and caring can change one person's life.

This is my review on Primrose. Hope you enjoyed it!

Book Review On 'Mother Knows Best'

During the holidays, I was enjoying a book called 'Mother Knows Best' It is a fiction chapter book and it is written by Serena Valentino.

In my understanding, this book is a back story on one of Disney's most famous villains, Mother Gothel. It shows why she needed Rapunzel and it gives you a deeper understanding of her ways. After reading this book you might even feel sorry for Gothel.

I recommend this book for 9-year-olds and up because they will understand this book and its ways.

My Holiday Recount🎉🎉

During the holidays I went to Auckland for my cousins 10th birthday! I wrote a recount on it and this is what I wrote.

In the empty streets of Whangarei, our silver car cut through the light fog that was sitting on the road. The sun yawned happily as it walked into view and threw orange, green, pink, and blue colours all over the sky. My nana hummed along to the music while my aunty stared blankly into my phone. We were driving to Auckland to celebrate my cousin’s 10th birthday! I gazed out the car window to see the stars waving goodbye and disappearing from view.

Driving to my cousin’s house, we had a pit stop at Macdonald’s to enjoy breakfast. The warm, fluffy pancakes had been drizzled with sweet maple syrup and the hot chocolate warmed my body making the freezing cold vanish into thin air. Afterwards, we ventured to my cousin's house. Inside my cousin’s house, the atmosphere had a warm, welcoming feeling.

So, as I wandered around, there was my cousin snoring peacefully on her bed. I woke her up and with an excited voice I said “Happy birthday!” and as she steadily stirred in her sleep, I gave her a small nudge to wake her up. Some of her clothes looked like they were singing in perfect melody; others look like they haven’t heard the perfect pitch before! She was still stunning in her brand new clothes and as the sun danced off her making her hazel eyes, sparkled with excitement.

Twenty minutes later, we were all enjoying the fresh air and were on the long drive to Auckland. The endless green fields were painted with flowers and we were all bored and had nothing to make our boredom disappear. So, as our silver car traversed along the eternal highway, me and my cousins fell into a deep sleep.

Waking up in the busy streets of Auckland, I was excited to beat my cousins at any and every game in Timezone. Hopping out of the car and walking steadily to my destination, the cars along the road roared past me and crowded the streets. The sun was now sitting happily in the inky, blue sky and was smiling down at me. Walking into Timezone with my family, adrenaline ran throughout my entire body; so as I went onto the games I enjoyed the hours we spent there, I lived in the moment.
