Palmers Burden

In class, we are studying a book called 'Wringer' by Jerry Spinelli. I am writing from the third-person perspective of Palmer revealing to his fried Dorothy that he has a pigeon. This piece of writing helps me improve in my showing not telling. Enjoy!

As Palmer paced back and forth in my bedroom he realized that he couldn’t bear the burden of Nipper

alone. Who would I tell? Palmer thought to himself. Dorothy’s sentence echoed in the back of his mind.

Why are you doing this to me? Dorothy Gruzik. The girl he targeted yet the girl he had sat on the swings

with that fateful day 5 years ago. Could I trust her? Should I trust her? I could and I should he silently thought. She wasn’t a target; she was a friend. Realization dawned over him. The sun slowly

set over the horizon and he was too impatient to wait until tomorrow. “I’ll be back soon mum,” he said as

he rushed down the stairs and flew out the door. “Bu-” his mother’s response was cut short as Palmer

shut the door and submerged himself into the last faint glows of sun rays.

He raced across the road and jumped over Dorothy’s prized hopscotch squares that were filled with ridiculous drawings. Palmer stepped up onto the threshold of her house and contemplated his choices. What if she’s still mad, he thought. Finally, mustering the little courage he had left inside of him he rang the doorbell. “Coming,” Dorothy said oblivious to who was standing outside. The oak door opened and her eyes fell on Palmer. Dorothy’s face illuminated with joy at the sight of seeing him. Palmer burst out saying, “I have a pigeon.” His burden was lightened.

My Fictional Narrative

In class, we are learning to write narratives. Of course, I already knew how but being taught again helped me improve my writing. Like, when I grow up, I want to become an author. Without revision, I wouldn't have noticed some key aspects in my and tips in my literature. Hope you enjoy it!

Orientation

Animals ran amuck in the glistening beams of sunshine and the thriving verdure smothered civilizations precious, ruined skyscrapers. The inky, blue sky was bleached behind the polluted, unfriendly clouds that hung limply in its grasp. The lack of bustling people was just as deafening as the animals roars were. The island was intruded with endless, emerald green grass. One lone person wandered around the forsaken earth and was foraging in search of the thing that could banish her solitude. “I’ll find it when pigs fly,” spoke Maline laughing at her own joke.

Problem

Movement. Her hazel eyes veered over to the forest where she had heard a faint rustle in the leaves. Her hand glowed with blue hexagons running down her arm. She heard it again. Then, the glowing in her died down. Fearful, Maline walked over slowly in her tattered shoes. She approached the thick, dense bush. Peeping through the luscious, secretive leaves. Nothing. A sigh of relief and disappointment came from Maline as she wandered off to get the key to finding humanity.

 Complication

Maline arrived at the once-bustling city and hunted for it. A large black vault. As Maline steadily walked towards the vault she thought, how would she open the box that could hold the key to humanity’s freedom? She looked out the shattered window and realized how to open the ‘secure’ vault. She ran over to the box and pushed with all the strength she had left inside of her. The vault fell and crashed with a deafening thump on the cracked pavement. Flying down the stairs to the vault, Maline hurriedly opened it and there it was. A phone. Her arm lit up with blue hexagons once more and the phone powered on. The coordinates of humanity’s prison flashed on the screen. Her face illuminated with excitement.

                                                                              Conclusion

Then, she heard it- the buzz of a drone. Maline dashed away from the vault with the phone in hand. She hid behind a large marble pillar that was blanketed in vines and damp, thick moss. The colossal drone flew past her hiding place. Relief washed over her. Maline followed the coordinates on the phone to humanity’s prison. Days passed. She had reached her destination. Walking up to the thick, titanium doors Maline placed her hands on them. Electrifying blue hexagons flowed throughout her entire body and her hazel eyes turned an electrifying blue as well. All of her strength and all of her energy was put into this. Slowly but surely, the steel doors started to open. People rushed out and sunlight flooded the darkened room. Maline searched frantically for her family. “Mum! Dad!” Were they even here? She thought, her high hopes diminishing. She stopped in her tracks and looked straight across the crowded room. There they were. Maline jumped into her parent’s arms. Tears of joy flooded down her hot, red cheeks. She was home.

Brick Goals

This term, I made some new brick goals. Just like the last term, I completed them and I'm so happy that I did. These are my brick goals and why I want to achieve them. Enjoy!

Courage

Yes. My recent blog posts have been on the topic of courage. That is because our focus in class this term is courage. Earl Nightingale once said, "All you need is the plan, the road map and the courage to press on to your destination." This is an amazing and inspirational quote in my opinion because it tells you to be courageous and always press on to your destination. Even if there are obstacles, you know the way. You've got the plan, you've got the map. Now all you need is courage. That is why I like it. Here is a poster I made featuring this quote. Throughout the making of this poster, I learnt how to layer and contrast different colours. So, I was inspired and I learnt something new. Win, win. Enjoy!

How Jesus Showed Courage In His Lifetime

In class, we've been reading about the courageous and miracle filled life of Jesus Christ. Everyone needs to be courageous from time to time. Whether it's asking for something you want or gambling, we all need to be courageous. Jesus is a biblical figure that is mainly known for being the main figure in Christianity and for also giving his own life on the cross as the son of God. Jesus is not only the son of God but also an amazing role model in courage. This is what I wrote about. Enjoy!

“But Jesus immediately said to them: ‘Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid.’ ”-Matthew 14:27. In life, we all

need to be courageous from time to time. Courage helps us face the trials and problems that occur when you

think that you can't push through it anymore. Courageous people push on when they feel like they can't.

An astonishing example of a courageous person is Jesus. Jesus performed many miracles and was like the

sun on a rainy day for thousands of people! You would think that being the son of God meant that he had it

all easy, but no. He didn't. He had to show courage in multiple situations such as: when he was on his death

trial or when he willingly gave up his life on the cross for the people he loved. That took courage. This

piece of writing is regarding all of the times Jesus stood up to religious leaders and showed courage.

In my opinion, the most obvious time when Jesus showed courage was when the high priest’s put Jesus on

trial. Of the few witnesses that they had found, many had false accusations but none of them agreed with the

statements of the others. Finally, the high priest asked Jesus, “Are you the Messiah, the son of the Blessed

One?” Jesus knew that these people wanted to put him to death if he spoke the truth. Even though he had

attained this knowledge he still answered by saying, “I am.” You can learn a lot from Jesus about being

courageous and standing strong on your faith by this one powerful passage. He knew that telling the truth

would cause pain and suffering for him. We can learn from him to always tell the truth for the benefit of

others. Now, dying for others, that’s courageous.

The last time (that I will write about) where Jesus showed is a story about a healing pool and Jesus healing

a man that hadn’t been able to walk for decades! Jesus asked if this man would like to be well. The man

replied by saying, “ Sir, I have no one to put me in the pool and while I am going to get into it myself,

someone else steps down ahead of me" Jesus said to him, “Get up; pick up your pallet and walk.” So, the

man did exactly that. He had regained his ability to walk and his strength had returned! This miracle was

performed on the sabbath day and when the Jewish leaders heard about this miracle they confronted Jesus for healing on the sabbath day. He replied by

saying, “ My father has been working until now and I too am working.” Not only did this statement make

the Jews temptation to kill him burn even more, but they persecuted him because he had called God his

father and equal. He had healed a man and here they were persecuting him! Even though they were irritating

him, Jesus stood his ground firmly. He was courageous for taking the persecution of leaders with respect

and authority. We can learn to take the persecution of others through this passage with the strength and

courage of Jesus Christ.

We can learn many things from Jesus. We can learn to be courageous. We can learn to stand on our faith.

We can learn to trust in God. Jesus is not only the son of God but also an amazing figure and role model in

being courageous. “Courage is not the absence of fear but the triumph over it.”- Nelson Mandela. Will you

be courageous?

What Is Courage

What is courage? In my opinion, courage is having the ability to push through hard times when you feel like you can't anymore. This is a poster I made to show examples of courage. Enjoy!
