Refugees Need Homes!

During class, I started to write a persuasive piece of text while trying to persuade readers to accept more Afghanistan refugees. I actually, for the first time, learnt how to write a counterargument! It was something I hadn't known before I started writing this piece of text. Enjoy!

Refugees Need Homes

In Afghanistan, there is a war between the Taliban and America. It was set in Pakistan which is a country in South Asia. This war has been burning for over two decades! Innocent people lose their lives due to the strife between the Taliban and America. Anger, sadness, death- why is no one doing anything to help? If you think this is unfair, you are not alone. I believe that the NZ government is able to house and feed those innocent people in Afghanistan. I believe that we as a nation can help those helpless refugees.

Imagine if you were a stranded child in the middle of the Afghan warzone, imagine a place that Afghan refugees can come to for safety, imagine a place where they don’t have to worry in constant fear of death: this is what New Zealand could become with the help of the government. “About 241,000 people have been killed in the Taliban and American war zone since 2001. More than 71,000 of those killed have been civilians,” stated the Watson Brown Institute Of International And Public Affairs. Some people think this murdering of civilians and innocent children is reasonable; others find this assassination unacceptable. I am certainly one of the others. We should care for people worldwide! Galatians 6:2 says "carry each other's burdens and so you will fulfil the law of Christ." As a country, we should be a refuge to those in Afghanistan and carry the burden of their safety.

Some people think that New Zealand already has enough refugees and that’s because NZ takes 1500 refugees from Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey and many more countries per year said The Conservation, A journalistic Flair. This is why a majority of people share this opinion. In my experience, we have a beautiful harmonious society here in Aotearoa. We have amazing unique animals, we have an abundant amount of healthcare access, food and a place to call home but, over in Afghanistan people barely have enough essential care things, food and even clean water to last them until the next day!

In conclusion, this is why taking in more refugees is a better option than leaving them stranded in a warzone. As a nation and a community, we should help in any way we can just to see an unfortunate Afghan in a home. You might not share my opinion but, I’m pretty sure the homeless, hungry children do...
